David Isaac

David Isaac sees the world through a wide angle lens: a world of legend, myth, poetry and psalm.

David Isaac is a composer, orchestrator, and music copyist, but above all, a powerful storyteller. He tells his stories through music, timeless stories of love versus hate and good versus evil.

Mr. Isaac began his musical studies in Tucson, Arizona, and later continued at Thomas Aquinas College in Santa Paula, California. While at the college he obtained performances of his two string quartets, a piano quintet, and several pieces for violin and piano. He was awarded distinction for his thesis, “On the Harmonic Unity of Debussy’s Prélude à l’Après-midi d’un faune,” a thesis that uses Paul Hindemith’s theory of combination tones to explain Debussy’s chord progression. Mr. Isaac graduated in 2005. Mr. Isaac continued his studies at California State University Northridge. Isaac has worked with musicians and conductors of all types, including the members of the Tucson Symphony Orchestra and Los Angeles Philharmonic. Mr. Isaac’s orchestral work, St. George and the Dragon, was recorded by the Ojai Youth Symphony, and his music has been performed by the Tucson Chamber Orchestra and Tucson Pops Orchestra, among others. His music has been played at private concerts at such venues as the Beverly Wilshire Hotel and the California Club. He has received numerous commissions from orchestras, ensembles, individual musicians, and patrons.

In 2010, David produced his CD,“Dreaming: Piano Music Inspired by Timeless Poetry.” Also in 2010, Mr. Isaac has completed commissions for the Tucson Chamber Artists, the Kontra-Cor Duo, and individual musicians. For the Tucson Chamber Artists, Isaac wrote a Christmas piece called Carol Collage which combines four well-known carols into one well developed movement. The piece is for SATB a cappella. For the Kontra-Cor Duo, Isaac wrote a piece called Daphne: inspired by the Greek Myth. This piece utilizes the Medieval modes to create a sound that is ancient, but contemporary. David is currently working on a symphonic tone poem based upon the Greek myths.
